Bad Blood

I’ve got bad blood,
I’ve done bad things.

If I enjoy these nasty habits?

Everyone was gathered in the field at the edge of the hunting range. Most were spectators in bleachers behind the table where the judges sat waiting for the competitors to bring in their kills, and there were even a few competitors who had retrieved their buck early. There was an air of excited anticipation as they all talked amongst themselves.

The feeling was shattered by a roar from deep within the forest. Everyone stopped talking at once. For a long time there was nothing, no sign of anything amiss, although one person thought they saw a smoky haze hanging above the trees.

Then suddenly the sound of heavy footfalls could be heard thundering towards them, and out of the woods came crashing The Devil’s Show, riderless, stirrups and reins flapping, a dead deer swinging comically in his mouth. There was just enough time to take it all in before he was upon them. Several people screamed and the horses there bolted, but the Nightmare skidded to a halt in front of the stunned judges and tossed the dead deer on the table with a loud thud. Then he spun more quickly then something of his enormous size should have been able to and took off again for the forest, looking maddeningly smug with his head held high and leaving a trail of smoldering grass behind him.
