The PookaKat had never been this deep in the forest before. The going was slow and the path was overgrown and in some places disappeared entirely, and low hanging branches were making her regret her decision to ride Devil for this particular adventure.

Devil stopped suddenly, startling Kat out of her thoughts.

"What?"

The Nightmare raised his head and sniffed the air, ears flat back against his skull. A low growl rose in his throat and he swished his tail and tossed his head in agitation, nearly yanking the reins out of Kat's hands.

"Hey now!" Kat snapped, taking a firmer grip on the reins. "What are you on about?"
